A charming individual, Astarion is no stranger to carrying conversation to his advantage. Using his wry, cheeky wit, he often finds ways of extracting what he wants to know from others with very little effort on his part and complete ignorance on theirs. He is no stranger to the violence and cruelty of the word which has led him to erect tough walls of iron around his true self. A rogue by nature, Astarion is only ever in it for himself... and himself alone. He hungers for power to rise above those who once buried his face in the mud. Still, he is not without benevolence, and those that have shared a similar history to his will find it easier to befriend him.

History

At a young age, Astarion was lively, happy, and innocent. He and his best friend would play together for hours in the forests near their home, inseparable. Their bond made it seem like they were brothers, but in truth they were unrelated. During one of their many adventures into the forest, a forest so well known to them they could navigate it with their eyes closed, something strange was laying it wait for them that day. The curiosity won out over Astarion, and despite his friends frantic warnings, continued to investigate. A small, strange, black gem that swirled with purple hues sat floating just inches off the ground in a small clearing. A voice on the wind, just a whisper, pulled Astarion towards it, beckoning him. His friends begging cries fell on deaf ears as Astarion's paw reached out, but before he could touch the gem... it rose. Higher and higher it rose, and then shot forward, it's sharp tip cutting into Astarion's chest, burying itself deep within. Darkness erupted around him that day, it clouded his mind... his senses, and when he finally came to, he was standing over the lifeless corpse of his best friend, a brother.

The grief and guilt had been hard to swallow. Even to this day it still lingered at the back of his mind, but as each day comes and goes, that dark voice pushes it further and further away. Astarion can feel himself slipping with each passing moment, that whisper filling his ears and blotting his vision. The Darkness that stirs within him from whatever strange gem now lies deep within his chest, beating beside his own heart, threatens to claim his very soul.
