After finding Kaida and nursing her back to health, it took her a while after waking up to learn to trust him. Ramael knew she was running from something, but she wouldn't tell him what or who. That didn't matter to him, he chose to help and protect her for as long as she needed or wanted his aid.
Once Kaida knew she could trust him, she never left his side. They were two lonely felvargs, of two completely different walks of life, brought together by pure chance.
Eventually the thing that was chasing Kaida caught up to them. Ramael never would have guessed that the same vargs who were responsible for the attack on his clan... the attack that had resulted in his loss of control and then banishment... were the ones hunting his companion.
What followed was a brutal fight, which ended with the hoard of enemies dead and Ramael mortally wounded. With nothing else to do, Kaida tapped into a power she didn't know she had and bonded him. She shared her blood with him, granting him regenerative abilities, speed, stealth, heightened senses, and an overall boost to the abilities he'd already possessed due to his family curse. In addition to that, the two of them can find each other no matter where they are, sensing each others locations and sometimes each others emotions as well.
Kaida feels guilty about what happened, but Ramael has tried to assure her that he doesn't regret anything that happened. He doesn't blame her, nor does he feel uncomfortable with this new and rather intimate bond they share. She feels like it was forced on him, that he had no choice. Ramael knows he would have died without the bond though, and it had been his choice to fight for her, and to stay with her even when he knew doing so would put him in danger.
For better or worse, he now serves as her guard, her warder. He is her loyal shadow, and he is content with his new purpose in life.
